*dusts off metaphorical dust that rests thickly on a rarely used blog*

Hi. It's been so long...

These past few months have been a bit crazy for me. The constant school work, a tiny splash of surgery, and then trying to squeeze in a bit of fun here-and-there has caused me to neglect this space. I'm not complaining though, getting stuff done offline is always more rewarding than gluing my eyes to pinterest for hours and loading up my boards (man, I love pinterest...). But I've used this space for awhile now and I can't seem to get rid of it, so unless my life drastically changes and I have heaps of time to spare, this little lavender-scented corner of the internet will stay somewhat barren until I return. I'm sure anyone who did follow me has long since abandoned hope of an update, but for anyone still out there (*shouts into a tiny room where the echo bounces around the walls, then comes back and hits me in the face*) I just wanted to let you know that my internet presence is looking more bleak than before.

So, I'll see you when I see you... or I wont. We'll just have to wait and see!  :D

Ladies With Fancy Hats

I had a simple plan in mind for this shoot, a grey background, fancy hats, and light that would lend itself well for heavy contrast. I really love working in the studio with artificial light. It might be because I am a bit of a control freak, but I love that if a picture doesn't look quite right, I can move around some lights and get exactly what I imagined. Clean images with heavy contrast are what I'm the most attracted to (and I often edit them to be so), but I also have a deep admiration for photographers who can create images with little contrast as the mid-tones eat their pictures into a wonderful vintage-looking oblivion.

When I asked my sister for her opinion of these images, she told me how the models looked like mysterious ladies in a film noir. Let me know what you think and enjoy the images!

Josie Photo Shoot (2) Pt. 1

This summer has held a great number of surprises, but I think my youngest cousin has offered me the greatest yet. I knew she was interested in acting, but I never knew she was also interested in modeling until I asked her to help me out and learned first hand! I really enjoy using her as a model because she takes direction really well and (best of all) she remembers the critiques I give her! She still has a lot to learn, but for a girl her age she is really above the rest in my opinion.

This shoot was centered around the hardware sign that's painted in my small hometown. I've always been attracted to the sign for some reason, watching it closely every time I drove past it, and finally I was able to use it in a shoot! I brought out a few props, just to try to balance the composition a bit and give the eye more to look at. It was extremely hot that day with direct sunlight burning down on our skin, but the harsh effect was a fun challenge to work with. I tried a few different color temperatures with the pictures and edited each quite differently according to where they were shot. All-in-all, this was a fun shoot and I was able to learn some good techniques while balancing the sun, composition, and model positioning!

Part two should be up soon! *Update: Part two can be found here (CLICK).
